Welcome!
My name is Angela Dickson - I'm a friendly and dedicated private music teacher who aims to bring the joy of learning music and the piano to life in a way that appeals to all.  My main objective when teaching students is to have fun and create a relaxed and welcoming environment in which they feel comfortable to learn, make great progress and enjoy their lessons.  As a qualified Primary School Teacher, I have over 15 years’ experience teaching children as young as 4 and have taught children with a range of abilities and additional needs.  I also teach adults. When it comes to using a teaching method, I don't believe that rigidly sticking to one method works well for every learner. Instead, I work with a student’s individual needs, and I identify and build upon their own strengths to find a way of learning that suits them best.

About Angela  BA (Hons)   PGCE

My interest in music began at a young age.  I started to learn the electronic organ at the age of 6, then the piano when I started attending college.  Whilst there, I completed my ABRSM exams in Music Theory, Piano and Singing.

After graduating from University with a BA Honours in Performing Arts, I went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) to become a Primary School Teacher.   I was a Primary School Teacher for 15 years and successfully led and developed the music curriculum in schools for 9 of these years.  Additionally, I led weekly whole school singing assemblies, as well as the school choir, and delivered a number of annual performances, both in school and within the local community.

In May 2021, I decided to start my own piano tuition business.  I teach from my very welcoming music studio in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.  I also love to sing and I integrate the best of Kodaly musicianship into my piano lessons, especially with younger children.

I finally took the brave decision to leave my full-time teaching post in December 2021 and my music studio continues to grow.

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and an ISM registered private teacher. I am also a member of the Curious Piano Teachers (CPT).

I also have an Enhanced DBS Certificate, the highest level of DBS check.

I listen to and appreciate many genres of music but I have a particular love for musical theatre and film scores. However, I also enjoy easy listening and classical, rock and pop; my favourite pianist at the moment is Einaudi.
